The Importance of Soft Skills Development in Polytechnic students

A generation ago, classic picture of working engineer would have been like a person planning or tinkering with his tools all by himself. At that time engineering was typically examined as isolated degree learnt to fulfill all or only technical skills. The scope of engineering has widened, due to the progress and improvement in technology and communication. Modern Engineering often works under traditional engineering system. MNCs in engineering domain have abrupt change, and as a result this has made cross-culture association an essential part of day to day work. Modern engineering is a specialist that is dedicated to the design, development and improvement of various concepts of engineering and technology. Modern engineering technology deals with practical knowledge rather than theoretical one. In such an environment, today’s Engineer undoubtedly needs soft-skills (to handle interpersonal relationships) apart from his core expertise (technical skills) for survival at work.

In academic and career world, having a strong background in “hard” skills will be helpful but the number of employers will only improve along with “soft” skills. Soft skills include the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and the willingness to learn through experience, and are applicable across multiple disciplines and careers. It is important for students of polytechnic college to develop soft skills as they prepare themselves for college and enter the work arena. According to research, 9 out of 10 employers believe that Soft-skills will become increasingly important as globalization speeds.

Having a good communication skill makes one deliver ideas clearly, effectively and with confidence which helps to communicate with various individuals from different cultural backgrounds. As a result you can follow-up with appropriate action.

2. Self Confidence

Believing in yourself and all your personal skills can help you work with people better. To do a difficult or a new task and generally achieve all the things, you need to be a master of soft skills. It means self-assurance, self- belief in one's personal judgment, ability, power, etc. Confidence makes your mind creative. The more confident you become, the clearer you think and the easier you conceive ideas. As a result you can follow-up with appropriate action. That automatically reflects in the clarity of your communication and finesse of your work

3. Collaboration

It is imperative for best polytechnic college bound students to function efficiently and appropriately in groups, collaborate on projects and accept constructive criticism when working with others. People who prefer working alone likely struggles in college and beyond, as the majority of careers require collaboration.

4. Leadership Skills

While it is important to be able to function in a group, it is also important to demonstrate leadership skills when necessary. The Analysis of Five Trends in Colleges And Universities

As 2016 winds to a close, along with the extensive higher education innovation and controversy that came with it, we look ahead to 2017 and what college and university directors should expect from the government regulation. The splitting of competency-based education development that was seen in 2015 is going to reach out to many new teaching techniques and colleges in 2017.

Administrators will find innovative ways to use foreshadowing analytics to improve student outcomes. Financial strain in the industry, despite the fact down overall, is expected to result in a rise in the number of closures and mergers.
Check the following for the further analysis on how these five trends will impact colleges and universities in the coming year.
Analysis of Five Trends
1. Faculty-based Education
Very small number of direct appraisals competency-based degree programs are been operating with the dedication of the Education Department. Many of the institutions are looking forward for how they can organize competency based, self-paced education into their contribution, 2017 is sure to bring more advanced technologies in this educational field .
The regulatory landscape may be motivating some schools and colleges to slow their potency. But many of the colleges are all set to check ahead.
2. Foreshadowing Analytics
Capital is extensive than ever for universities and colleges to prove that they can help their students accomplish their path to success. Most of the data, is used by analysts on higher education and correctional institutions. It is now also being used by administrators to expand the advancement of foreshadowing tools that allow staff and faculty to desire students mediations.
A number of campuses, including PC Polytechnic College, have early warning systems that alert students when they are at risk of poor outcomes. PC Polytechnic College is improving with the new foreshadowing software tools and taking the perception even further, by using massive data to keep records of the staff and faculty achievements.
The Analytics Standard is assertive to broaden access to data, and in obtainable formats, for universities and colleges that use third-party tools. Third party tools here actually means for the involvement, intervention and concentration with or for the student. As many of the vendors promise to the standards, the phase will be set for higher education institutions to work more with the data, ultimately, improve services for students and boost graduation and retention rates.

3. Outcomes and Affiliates
Colleges may finish up 2016 analyzing their preferences, whether it be merging with a correspondent institution or coming up into some type of partnership that cuts down on costs or raises the profile of the colleges to help them for a better challenge.
This year saw the outcomes of many Colleges, schools, and a number of private institutions by their profits.  Falling enrollment across higher progresses to be completed in the for-profit sector. However Nonprofit organizations were not kept out of all the closure declaration in 2015.
4. Reform of Accreditation
2015 have had being a tough year to the accreditors and 2016 is not likely to bring relief yet. The Higher Education Act is on the edge of the reformation. Accreditation reformation is a top highlight and on priority of Education Department.
Nontraditional degree and certificate program providers could see extended entry to financial aid rupees in 2016. One main concern among would-be formenter, however it is all about the authority the new regulation could take. The focus is on increasing monetary return on investment of higher education when it comes to audit the value. The most and main motive of higher education is to come to a level of concordance over the student learning outcomes, and to push a more comprehensive approach to higher education liability, the consequences of this initiative will be on full display in 2017.

The era of e-learning

"Learning is more effective when it is an active rather than a passive process."  —  Kurt Lewin (1890-1947)

How e-learning originated is not known to the world. It is suggested that this very term originated during the 1980’s at the same as another delivery mode online learning. This is when the computer evolution happened and it completely changed the traditional way of looking at classroom learning. Aristotle said, “What we have to learn to do, we learn by doing,” and Einstein echoed, “The only source of knowledge is experience.” Confucius said, “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”

What is e-learning? E-learning is a computer based educational tool  that enables you to learn anywhere and at any time. Internet plays an important role in e-learning today, although in the past CD-ROMs were used. With technology increasing at a rapid pace it has bridged the gap between online tools available for learning. E-learning lets  you share materials, conduct webinars and communicate with professors on a regular basis via message forums. E-learning provides students with the ability to add learning to their daily schedules, effectively allowing even the busiest person to further a career or gain more skills.

The greatest developments in education happened since the launch of the internet. Since people are familiar with the latest technologies it is easier for people to get accustomed to this  new age of learning. Message boards, social media and other online communication allows people to keep in touch and discuss course related matters making it a community. With the quick changes in technology, course material need to be updated and readily avaible for its learners. The more things change, the more they remain unchanged. Learning has always been humanity’s lattermost survival skill, just like humans survived during the ice age or learnt to rise after the downfall of the markets and the economy.

E –learning is growing at a rapid pace and analysts suggest that it will reach $107 Billion in 2015, with countries like India dominating this industry. Studies show the Internet has transformed the online learning sector in recent times with an elevation of educational academies, corporate houses as well as training centers sharing expert thoughts and  knowledge through online programs.

A Coursera study that evaluated over 50,000 Indian students reported better outcomes in the country than the global average. The online courses have benefitted 90 % Indian students, a 3 % higher than the global average.
The study done by Coursera and researchers at the Universities of Pennsylvania and Washington, was carried out on students who had completed a course on coursera that was for three months or more.

A new study by LoudCloud Systems on e-learning research and development firm estimated the e-learning market size in India will grow from $20 billion to $40 billion by 2017. The firm noted that the online education and learning will change drastically in the next three years because online education is not only attracting the student community in India, but a number of businesses across different industries including IT, BSFI and manufacturing. Bajaj Financial Services, TVS Infotech and KPIT Cummins are some of the businesses that have adapted to the trends of e-learning.

The future of e- learning is enticing. S2S teaching platforms (2020 A.D.)  states  that students learn better and retain more when they actively interact with each other. It plays on the concept of mixed age and ability classrooms and makes use of individual learning to associate different students with peers who they can mentor or teach. Algo-generated lessons (2030 A.D.) is a natural outcome of the push for big data and data mining.Apart from those, new tools such as attention and eye  tracking will be used  where the student’s input can be monitored and quantified.Hence, lessons can be created that match the student’s targeted learning levels, prior knowledge, and preferred methods of learning. Neuro-informatics (2040 A.D.) Though the current state of the field is far removed from the 2040 applications projected, neuro-informatics will allow an understanding of how the human brain functions and how optimization of learning can be done by taking into consideration the individual’s brain structure. It is possible that Matrix-like technology will be developed that will allow information to be uploaded to the human brain without the need for any system of education.

Today e-learning is perceived as a low cost effective training method. The future of e- learning uses internet technologies like virtual classrooms and self paced instructions by using different applications such as user generated content, digital collaboration and web learning. With the rapid changes in technology and devices there is no doubt that e- learning is the ultimate of the e-world we are submerged in.

Proper Study Pattern for Polytechnic College : A Must for Getting High Grades

After completing higher secondary education, a number of students join professional diploma courses. Diploma courses are not exactly a very high level of education; it is somewhere between school education and higher education. Students pursuing diploma course are not old or matured enough to study independently, live independently and manage their own life. Some of them may be locals but most of them live in hostels or P.G. accommodation. This is perhaps their first experience of leaving the security of homes and parents and living far away among strangers.
Left to manage things independently students are at a loss initially. It takes time for them to settle down to the new routine. They suddenly realize that they have to grow up and behave with responsibility. They understand that they have to focus on studies. By the time they learn to manage life independently, it may be too late to begin studies. The semester exams will be near before they realize how much time is lost.  Hence, the first thing that polytechnic students must do is to fix a proper study pattern. Other things can wait.

Students have to attend college in the day time. Hence, they must select a suitable time slot which is convenient for the, either early morning or late night when they can study without being disturbed. This study time does not include project or home assignments. The time should be spent on reading, making notes, revising or solving question banks.
Learning styles and study patterns differ with students. Some students can remember what they read once. Others need to copy and write from the book in order to remember better. Still others prefer to jot down important points. Whatever the style, students should settle down to a proper study pattern as soon as possible. They must follow the study pattern daily, regularly without fail, especially students who wish to score high grades. Regular study from the beginning of the year helps them to complete the syllabus in time, leaving plenty of time for revision.
A proper study pattern implies planning and distribution. Students must take stock of the subjects they have to study. They should allot the necessary number of days and hours to study the subjects. Dividing the syllabus into smaller units and completing the units one by one helps in a great way.
If students do not follow a fixed study pattern, they may get confused with the bulk of the syllabus. They will fail to understand where to begin and how to go about it. Towards the end of the year, the syllabus will seem to be unmanageable. It will lead to frustration and nervousness on the part of students. It will affect their grades to a great extent.
Wise students always follow a fixed study pattern from the first day of college. It helps them to be abreast of what is being taught in the classroom. Reading what is taught on the same day enables better understanding and fixation of concepts. Proper study patterns must include practice and drilling of exercises.
There is a direct correlation between study patterns and high grades. Best luck to Polytechnic Students for attempting to fix proper study patterns and score high grades in the examinations!!!

Opting for a diploma is good after 10th or 12th

The three turning points in the course of education are passing std. X, followed by Std. XII and Graduation. There were times when people gave a lot of importance to graduation. However, graduation implies an additional three years. Moreover, graduation cannot be an end point; for real good jobs, specialization is necessary. Specialization means another two years of Post-graduation course. This meant that students could not start earning before spending 4 to 5 years after matriculation. Considering the need for many to start earning at an early age, the 10+2+3 pattern was introduced. Those who cannot go ahead, complete the first stage after Std X. Some others can pull another two years up to Std. XII. The fortunate lot can proceed to higher education. With the introduction of the new pattern, a number of certificate and diploma courses were introduced which can be studies after Std X or std. XII. They are professional course and enable students o get jobs and start earning money within two years after secondary or higher secondary education.
Opting for a diploma course after Std X or XII is indeed a wise decision which has many advantages.
  • Students can get professional qualification within 2 years and they can start earning money.
  • While they work, they can appear for degree courses externally.
  • They can join distance education courses to enhance their qualifications.
  • They can continue education in the same stream later on and procure a degree.
  • Students can start their own business.
A diploma course lays the foundation for a degree course. A student who wishes to become an engineer can first take a diploma in engineering. He can start earning with this qualification. Later, when he becomes financially stable, he can take a degree in engineering and make a bright career. He has working experience which is an added advantage.
There is a vast range of options for specialization in subjects after Std. X or XII. It is advisable to choose a subject that is different. Students generally go for civilmechanicalITcomputer, electrical, electronics and telecommunication or metallurgy. Most of these are available in Polytechnic colleges. However, a large number of options are available nowadays like automobile engineering, fisheries, printing technology, leather technology, fine arts, aviation engineering and a host of others.
Diploma courses are offered in many colleges. Students must take care to select good colleges and check their affiliation to reputed universities. It is necessary to have good infrastructure for diploma courses. There must be laboratories and workshops on the campus for providing practical training to students. Besides, academics, young students must get opportunity for holistic development.
P.C. Polytechnic is a reputed college in Pune that offers diploma courses in engineering streams. Besides having best infrastructure, the college provides opportunity for hands –on experience to students by placing them in companies for summer training and internship. Special efforts are taken for giving interview training and job related skills. The college has a record of 100% placement of students.

5 Important Factors For The Best College

After completing school education, students launch upon higher education by seeking admission to college. They are at a turning point in their lives; they come with great dreams, great admissions and of course, great expectations. College life is an important phase in their life and they have their own ideas about college life. If they do not get a college of their choice or if the college is not up to their expectations, it can lead students be frustrated or depressed. Some of them may lose interest in studies and quit half way. College authorities must constantly interact with students and explore their needs. Based on a general survey, the necessary facilities should be arranged for.
There is a competition among colleges these days to prove to be the best. Colleges spend a lot of time, efforts and money in the race to be the best; yet some colleges fail to give simple but essential necessities that students expect from a college. Certain factors are responsible for identification of a college as the best college.
5 important factors for the best college
  • Lectures and classes: Students chiefly join a college in order to gain knowledge. Hence, every college must have a systematic time-table. Lectures must be conducted regularly. If there are any changes or cancellations they must be conveyed in time. Students wake up early, travel long distances to arrive in college at the given time; if they find that the lecture is cancelled, it can be very disappointing. Colleges must have faculty back-up in case of emergency so that students remain engaged at any cost. Lecturers must conduct classes regularly and punctually and serve as an example to the students.

  • Infrastructural facilities: students do not expect huge air-conditioned halls; the best you can arrange for are comfortable, well-lighted and ventilated classrooms sufficiently large to accommodate all students. Tables and benches must be enough and comfortable. Other facilities include pure drinking water, clean toilet blocks, separate common rooms for boys and girls, an auditorium, a library, workshops or laboratories depending on the courses conducted, spots facilities and a good library. Computers, internet, gym hall etc are additional facilities which students like to enjoy.
  • Teachers and staff: Teachers still play a pivotal role in the present system of education. Teachers must be serious, committed dedicated and competent. They must have good knowledge of their respective subjects and must encourage students, motivate them and interact with them. Teachers must try to find out the difficulties and problems faced by students and help them to overcome them. Students may revolt strongly against unfair and partial teachers, teachers who are carefree, who have a tendency to blackmail students and who cannot teach well, which is their actual job.
best polytechnic college
  • Atmosphere/ discipline: The atmosphere in a college is very important. There must be strict disciplinary rules in every college. Lack of discipline leads to quarrels and conflicts on the campus, company of bad students, anti-social and anti-national activities, chaos and riots. A college is a sacred place where students come to study. The sanctity of the college must be maintained at any cost. A college that lacks discipline cannot promote education and gets a bad reputation.
  • Opportunities:A good college is one that provides ample opportunities for all round development of students. The college must organize competitions; assign projects and assignments, sports events, workshops, seminars, conferences, field trips and visits, picnics, cultural programmes, extra-curricular activities etc. round the year. Students must be encouraged to participate in maximum number of activities. This will keep the students occupied and deter their thoughts from wandering in wrong directions. It will also take care of holistic development of students.
best polytechnic colleges
  • Management: Last of all, it is the management that oversees the working of a college. Managements must be cooperative regarding teachers and students and attend to complaints or grievances promptly. They must try to fulfill the demands of students as far as possible. Students must be treated with due respect. It is not advisable to be too harsh with them. They must maintain an affordable fee structure and give concessions to needy and deserving students. Management must support teachers if they wish to conduct research or enhance their qualifications.
best polytechnic college in pune
F these 5 minimum areas are taken care of, a college can be qualified as one of the best colleges.
